Ophthalmology and Eye Care in Bloomington, IllinoisDr. Watson Gailey started an ophthalmology eye care practice in Bloomington, Illinois 1908 to serve the community needs and to provide the finest medical and surgical eye care. Dr. Gailey was a true pioneer in the field of ophthalmology and eye care and was a nationally known specialist in this area of medicine. He traveled extensively to acquire the knowledge needed to open an ophthalmology clinic specially designated for eye care. In 1941, Dr. Gailey opened the Gailey Eye Clinic in Bloomington. At that time, Dr. Gailey and Dr. Fredrick Frell established the sixth eye bank in the United States at the Mennonite Hospital in Bloomington. In March 1987, the Gailey Physicians and Bromenn Regional Medical Center entered a joint venture to open a surgery center dedicated to eye surgery. In July 1998, the Gailey physicians assumed operation of the ambulatory surgery treatment center. Today, the Gailey physicians offer the most advanced technologically safe and effective procedures for treatment of eye problems at the now called Bloomington Eye Institute. BEI is located at 1008 N. Center St., Bloomington, IL.
