Board certified ophthalmologist Dr. Ara Aprahamian was born in Houston, Texas. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Grinnell College in Iowa, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He went on to the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City where he received his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1999.
In 1999-2000, Dr. Aprahamian participated in a clinical research fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed an internship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and then began his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
As of July 2004, Dr. Aprahamian and his wife moved to Bloomington, Illinois to join Gailey Eye Clinic. Dr. Aprahamian has a special interest in surgical and laser treatment of glaucoma, no stitch, no patch cataract surgery, laser treatment for diabetes and other ocular conditions, and functional plastic surgery.
Dr. Aprahamian is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, baby daughter and sports.
