Effects of Heredity and Time

We were all born with smooth, baby soft skin. As we go through life our skin becomes a road map showing the effects of what we have done. Even if we have taken care of our skin, many of us are affected by childhood and adolescent diseases while heredity and gravity always take their toll.

Exposure to the sun, use of alcohol, smoking, and less than optimal nutrition all accelerate the signs of aging. Moles, warts, keratoses, scars from acne or facial trauma may further mar our skin and such blemishes may adversely affect our self image.

In the past, chemical peels and dermabrasion have been the primary means of reducing these undesirable effects. Since these techniques lack adequate control, there is significant risk of scarring and the cosmetic results are frequently unsatisfactory.

Eyelid Rejuvenation

Eyelid Rejuvenation or Blepharoplasty, is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedures. With age, the tissue above and below the eyes begins to look droopy. These heavy lids can make it difficult to keep the eyes open and gives the appearance of fatigue. Blepharoplasty may be performed on the upper lids to restore the eyelid platform. This surgery can also improve baggy appearing lower eyelids. Both procedures can make the eyes appear brighter, fresher and more alert.

The CO2 laser cauterizes blood vessels as it removes the excessive skin and underlying fatty tissue. This reduces intraoperative bleeding and postoperative bruising and swelling, allowing more rapid return to normal activities. The incisions are placed within the natural crease of the eyelids and usually heal without noticeable scarring.

Complimentary Procedures

Laser Skin Resurfacing and Eyelid Rejuvenation complement one another and together they provide a pleasing total improvement for most patients. While eyelid rejuvenation removes excess tissue, laser skin resurfacing tightens and rejuvenates damaged skin. Both procedures may be performed during a single session, thereby avoiding additional facility fees and recovery time.

Ask your doctor to determine if you are a candidate for either or both of these procedures. Although results vary from patient to patient, many have found them to be the answer to making them look as good as they feel.
