Ophthalmologist Dr. Joseph G. Harman was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois. He attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. He graduated with honors in May of 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Before deciding to attend medical school, Dr. Joseph Harman, M.D. was a stock broker and a registered investment advisor. In 1992, he began medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Joseph Harman, M.D. received his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1996.
After completing a one year internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dr. Harman received his specialty training in Ophthalmology at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. From 1999 to 2000, he acted as Chief Resident. Dr. Harman has been a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology since August of 1998.
In July of 2000, Dr. Joseph Harman, his wife and four children returned to Illinois to make their home in Bloomington so he could begin his practice at the Gailey Eye Clinic. Although Dr. Joseph Harman enjoys all aspects of ophthalmology and vision care, he has a special interest in small-incision cataract surgery and laser and surgical treatment of glaucoma. He is also experienced in laser treatment of diabetic eye disease.
Dr. Joseph Harman enjoys spending his free time with his family. Other interests include golfing, boating and fishing.
